The epitome of a grain-to-glass craft distillery, Sutherland Distilling Company produced award-winning, locally sourced spirits from 2013 until its closing in February 2023. This California bourbon represents, in our humble opinion, one of the finest barrels of whiskey they ever produced. Naturally sweet, but curiously dry and spicy, we upped the autumn ante and finished this 100% corn bourbon in a maple bourbon cask. The results speak for themselves. Sutherland Distilling Company was founded in 2013 by brothers Ryan and Barry Sutherland, along with friend Eric Larimer, in Livermore, CA. Inspired by their passion for craft spirits, and a shared commitment to sustainability and local agriculture, the trio quickly established a reputation for producing exceptional, handcrafted spirits distilled entirely from locally sourced ingredients.
Our partnership with Sutherland began in October of 2022 during a week-long tour of northern California craft distilleries. Despite a short notice, Mason Clemens (Distiller) and Ryan Sutherland (Owner, Distiller) took time to sit down with us and share samples of nearly all of the award-winning spirits, including two barrels of 100% corn bourbon that had been resting for over 5 years. Milled, fermented, distilled, and aged on-site, they were exactly what we were looking for in a Two Souls Spirits whiskey.
Sadly, Sutherland Distilling Company announced that it would be closing permanently in February 2023. While we wish that this could have been a long-term partnership, we couldn’t be happier to offer you some of the last Sutherland bourbon that will ever be released. We are proud to continue the Sutherland tradition of “No Shortcuts. No Exceptions.” through Two Souls Spirits.
